Paul Chiranand, MD
Vitreoretinal Specialist
Dr. Paul Chiranand is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal specialist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal, macular, and vitreous diseases.
A native of Oak Forest, Illinois, Dr. Chiranand graduated Summa Cum Laude from Saint Louis University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Dr. Chiranand completed his internship at Forest Park Hospital in St. Louis and his ophthalmology residency at Saint Louis University, where he served as Chief Resident. He then completed a two-year vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Chicago. His advanced training included the diagnosis and management of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, and other retinal conditions.
Dr. Chiranand has participated in numerous national clinical studies involving treatments for diseases of the retina, macula, and vitreous and has authored and co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and ophthalmology educational resources, including The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Review Manual for Ophthalmology.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Chiranand is dedicated to educating the next generation of ophthalmologists. He serves as affiliate faculty at Loyola University and is on staff at the Hines VA Medical Center, where he teaches residents in clinical and surgical ophthalmology, and as a Clinical Associate at the University of Chicago. He was recognized as Educator of the Year in 2021 at Loyola University for his contributions to resident education.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Chiranand enjoys traveling, playing tennis, and watching sports.
